Hiawatha Hideaway is perfect house in the forest. Everything is immaculately clean. The kitchen is a dream with every thing needed to cook. We enjoyed the solitude of the woods, while being close to all the sites in Muninsing & Picture Rocks. Enough space for everyone to spread out. Lisa & Tom are great hosts & responsive to any inquiries you have. Highly recommend staying here on your next trip to the U P.

The Hideaway Cabin is a fantastic place to stay, especially if you have a large group. Very roomy, comfortable, and with all the modern conveniences you will ever need for your stay, we will definitely be renting again.

This is our second stay at Hiawathas Hideaway. The cabin updates are beautiful and it was clean, warm, and cozy. We were close to the snowmobile trails and enjoyed every minute of our stay. We will be back again!

This cabin is the ideal get-a-way in the beautiful Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Whether you're hunting, hiking, fishing, snowmobiling, or simply want to enjoy nature - this is the perfect place. All the amenities of urban life in a remote setting. We're been hunting from this cabin ( 6 people) for several years and see no reason to change. Tom & Lisa are the perfect hosts - there if you need them, otherwise you're on your own.

We came up for the long weekend stay and it was great! It's just a quick hop away from Munising and we still felt like it was home.

This place was amazing! The cabin was so beautiful Plenty of room for our group of 9. It had all the amenities of home in a rustic atmosphere. Plenty of room and privacy outside, great fishing and swimming. The fishing boat and paddle boat was a plus! It was also very close to Lake Superior, pictured rock tours and the shipwreck tours. 5 stars for sure!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hiawatha’s Hideaway. The accommodations were excellent for the seven of us. Very clean, spacious, and well stocked with kitchen and bathroom supplies, and close to many beautiful waterfalls, Lake Superior and Pictured Rocks. We also took day trips to Marquette and Mackinac Island. Lisa, the owner, was awesome! She was very responsive and provided us with helpful information on things to do. I highly recommend this beautiful home in the U.P.

Rainbow’s Promise used to be my family’s cottage. I am so grateful to have been able to rent it for the last 26 years! The owners have made lots of upgrades to it over the years. The cabin is clean, and the location is private, quiet, and relaxing. The lake is good for swimming or fishing. There are several lakes in the area that are great for kayaking, with a hiking/biking trail within walking distance, and Munising an easy drive into town. It is my favorite vacation spot.

House was very nice and very clean. Perfect location for hiking! We spent our day outside hiking on trails in the middle of the woods. So peaceful.

The home was lovely and extremely clean which was very much appreciated especially during the uncertainty of the pandemic. My family and I had a wonderful time visiting the lakes, waterfalls and hiking the beautiful forests!

Beautiful Cabin! So many bodies of lake around the area and places to go that kept us busy the entire week. Cabin was perfect for our family. Would definitely recommend and stay again!

Hiawatha's Hideaway was a perfect fit for us. We felt like we were in our own home. I am a gourmet cook and the kitchen was fully appointed with all the cooking utensils and gadgets I needed to cook for my family. The house is located in the Hiawatha National Forest, a short drive from Munising, and you feel like you are far out in nature removed from the business of life. We had no trouble getting from our vacation home to hiking, waterfalls, bike trails, pontoon rentals and local restaurants. We were even able to bring the family dog along. I would highly recommend Hiawatha's hideway for your Upper Peninsula vacation.

Roger Dupuis (Naperville, IL)

Jan 25, 2020

Four of five of us have stayed at Hiawatha's Hideaway every Jan or Feb for one week to snowmobile for several years. We love the place and it feels like home. There is plenty of room, the beds are comfortable, the kitchen is spacious and has everything we need. The laundry facilities are very handy after a few days of snowmobiling. The new kitchen appliances and floor are beautiful and really make the place sharp!

Lisa Vaillancourt (Fenton, Mi)

The house was very nice clean and neat. It had everything needed for our stay and we enjoyed the time there. Would definitely come back. Also Lisa was very attentive to any text messages and ensured we had everything needed for our stay. Thank you.

Our group of 6 hunters have stayed at this cabin for the past 5-6 years. Having spent decades in tents and trailers, we finally upgraded and now live like Kings in the woods. With amenities like WiFi, washer/dryer, 2-car garage and 2 full baths, our group hunts in style. We have weathered many snow storms over the years and the driveway is always plowed promptly. The house is in great condition and much of the house was refinished with new appliances last year. The best part of this house are the hosts! They are like family, communicate quickly on any issues and they even joined us for dinner last year. You will have no regrets leasing Hiawatha's Hideaway!

We had a wonderful stay at Hiawatha's Hideaway. The cottage was immaculate! We loved the location. It was really quiet and only a short drive to Pictured Rocks. Thank you for having us!!

The Hideaway was perfect! They thought of all the right amenities and perks! Remodel is great! Quiet place in the middle of the Forest, but Close to the General Store and Pete’s Lake! Only 15 min to Munising, Lake Superior and Pictured Rock! Had a great time hiking and riding our UTV on the roads and trails! We found some good mud to play around in as well!

Nathan Schlueter (Hillsdale, MI)

Jul 23, 2019

My family of 10 chose Hiawatha’s Hideaway in part because of its record of perfect 5 star reviews. We had never been to the UP. Having just spent four nights there, we are happy to continue the streak! The property with its rustic interior and lake access is itself a lovely vacation spot, while also providing a close and convenient launching point for the best sites of Pictured Rocks state park. The management were very friendly and easy to work with. We are recommending this spot to all our friends who want the UP experience.

Katy LaRuffa (Hudsonville, MI)

Jul 22, 2019

Our entire family had such a great time staying at this home! We appreciated the space, beds, amenities, great kitchen, showers, fire pit and charm! Great communication from the host. Would absolutely recommend staying here for anyone vacationing to Lake Superior or Pictured Rocks!

The place was way more then I expected, beautiful place to stay, very reasonable, quiet and relaxing, felt as if we were at home. Loved it will be back for sure. Tom and Lisa made sure there was no issues and left us feeling as we have known them our entire life.

Roger Dupuis (Naperville, IL)

Feb 02, 2019

We have been staying at Hiawatha's Hideaway for several years to snowmobile in the UP. We usually have 4 or 5 guys and there is plenty of room with a couple of sleeper sofas if we find someone else that wants to come along. We have all the food prep things we need there, the beds are comfortable, and the place is always neat and inviting. The garage is very useful to do some minor repairs on the sleds or get packed for the day on the trails. We used the garage this year when the freezing rain hit to keep it off the sleds which helped a lot. The driveway also has plenty of room for snowmobile trailers. We feel like home at Hiawatha's Hideaway and plan to stay there every year. Tom and Lisa are very friendly and helpful.

Nov 18, 2018

The cabin was very roomy and clean. We loved the animals on the wall. Having a nice TV and WIFI in the middle of the Hiawatha forest was a nice surprise. We definitely plan on coming back!

Nov 13, 2018

We are a group of six deer hunters and have been staying at this beautiful cottage in the woods for the past 5 years. Lisa and Tom provide full support for every need including snow plowing. 2 full baths, dishwasher and the washer/dryer are a must and the large 2-car garage make this the perfect place for our group. We highly recommend this cottage for your vacation needs in Michigan's Upper Peninsula - summer or winter (just don't plan to use it during the 3rd week of November).

My Husband and I enjoyed our weekend getaway here. It was a Home away from Home. Lisa (owner) was very responsive to questions/concerns e had throughout our stay. The October scenery was beautiful and we enjoyed hiking with our pups. We will be back again...lots more to see and do! Thanks for our wonderful stay.

Randi (mundelein, IL)

Sep 12, 2018

Super comfortable and quiet! Nice country decor with plenty of room for our group and everyone was happy with the accommodations. Hiawatha's Hideaway is a spacious and well stocked home with everything that is needed including WIFI and Satellite TV. The attached garage was really nice to have for storing away our buggies when we weren't riding them! The location was perfect for riding in every direction seeing that we rode 872 miles during our stay. It was great and very nice to return to such a nice home to relax after an exciting day of adventures! Communication with Lisa was super easy and quick which was appreciated. I would recommend Hiawatha's Hideaway as a great place to stay and get away from it all! Just a perfect spot tucked away in the Hiawatha National Forest but yet not too far away from it all.

Home away from home ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Hiawatha's Hideaway has been our family's home away from home for many years. It's located in the beautiful Hiawatha National Forest and it's our favorite vacation destination. Hiawatha's Hideaway is the perfect fit for any size family. The layout is ideal for large families and smaller families will enjoy the all the different sleeping options. The basement level allows plenty of room for the kids with a pull-out in the "living room" and a large bedroom with two roomy beds. The adults can enjoy the quiet of the main level with two additional bedrooms and another living room. Due to the space, often, we bring up additional family members to the U.P. with us. Whether it is one set of grandparents or two, cousins or friends, we've always had plenty of room. If you are looking for a comfortable, homey, clean, and well-stocked place to stay during your visit to the stunning Pictured Rocks area, please consider Hiawatha's Hideaway as your vacation rental. It may just turn into your own home away from home. Date of arrival May 3, 2018

Great homey cabin in the UP (5 stars from TripAdvisor/Flipkey review) Left on Feb 27, 2018 for a stay in Feb 2018 This cabin is located in the Hiawatha National Forest near Munising, MI in the UP and is a great place for snowmobiling. A group of 3 or 4 of us have stayed there annually for a week for the last 3 years and we love it. The cabin is close to the trails, but stuck back in the woods where we like it. The cabin has 2 bathrooms unlike the common "one bathroom cabins". The beds are comfortable, and the basement beds have bed heaters, which I really like. All kitchen appliances needed are there, the garage is a nice place to "wrench" on the sleds, and the cabin has nice furniture and decor.

We had another amazing stay at Hiawatha's Hideaway cabin! We were there a year ago and it felt like we never left. The cabin is so cozy and has everything you need available. It is nice and secluded and I love sitting on the deck and listening to nature. The process of renting has gone so smooth each time. The communication is exceptional. The cabin is in a great location and only a few miles away from the town of Munising. By far my favorite place to stay I can't wait to come back!!!

When we are traveling, we often try to rent a home to enjoy a more relaxed, spacious stay than always staying in a hotel. This home did not disappoint. It was a nice historic home that had been updated very nicely on the interior. The home had a view of the lake, and was within walking distance of the pier and the downtown. We took one of the ferry rides out to view the Picture Rocks area. Amazing! And we walked to one of the Friday Eve local fish Fry's, too. Doc's Place allowed us to be very flexible with our scheduling and yet relaxing in a home. Lisa was very accommodating and helped make our last minute booking take place. We would highly recommend anyone that they seriously consider this home for their stay in this beautiful lake community. Thank you Lisa. Dennis

We had a wonderful week stay at the Sunset Beach House. The home is decorated beautifully and the beach is just steps outside the door. It's a private setting, very peaceful, and you can fall asleep listening to the waves. There's plenty of room, we had 5 adults and 2 dogs and were not crowded in the least. In a good location to visit many of the attractions in the area. We highly recommend this beautiful beach house!

Katie Perna (Harper Woods, MI)

Aug 04, 2017

Everything about our stay was positive! It was a beautiful cabin with all the amenities included. It was so clean, spacious, our 8 adults and 2 dogs had plenty of room. It was a great location to all of our site seeing activities. We enjoyed grilling, fishing, and a bonfire. Lisa was very efficient and friendly and made our planning and details so easy. We recommend this cabin to everyone.

Beautiful property. Quiet and close to all the local hotspots. The garage was perfect for keeping our mountain bikes and kayaks while not in use. We will stay again.

Jun 17, 2017

Our stay at the Hiawatha Hideaway was superior. The home was so very clean and well stocked with all amenities as stated. The bonus features was having a washer & dryer so we did not need to bring extra clothing and towels, a garage to keep our vehicle out of the elements and the internet service was so very important for our sons medical device and it worked Perfectly. I also wanted to mention how nice the bonfire pit with stocked wood was and the nice charcoal grill. The home is very spacious and exceeded all of our expectations. We also loved the location. Pete's Lake was so Beautiful. We did not want to leave. We are Very satisfied with our experience. We will definitely be back again. Many Thanks! The Bealko Family!

We really love the location. It's closeness to Munising and trails and being out in nature. We love the convenience and space in the home. My granddaughters really loved the family Room and the toys that they could play with during the rainy days. It smelled clean and was immaculate and had everything we needed to have a great long weekend there.

Doc's Place will definitely be our place to stay when traveling to Munising. Nothing but the best is how I would describe the inside. The view is wonderful and you're close to everything.

My family and I enjoyed a wonderful stay at Hiawatha's Hideaway during our 1st visit to Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The surroundings were very pleasant and quiet, sitting peacefully among the pines in Hiawatha Ntl Forest. The house was very roomy and very clean. We enjoy cooking and we were very impressed with the well stocked kitchen which included everything we needed to make our meals during our stay. The home was near to all the activities we planned. We would definitely stay here in future.

Kristin Hinze (Oakfield , WI)

Feb 11, 2017

We truly enjoyed our accommodations at Hiawatha's Hideaway near Munising for our annual Couples Snowmobile retreat week. It was clean and well maintained. It has plenty of area to accommodate trucks and trailers plus the garage was nice to park our sleds in at the end of the day. Will definitely consider staying again in the future!

We have benefited from the services of Hiawatha's Hideaway's Vacation Homes for many many years. They never disappoint! The communication is always timely and professional. The homes we have had the pleasure of staying in are always well stocked with the basics, they are neat and clean--we love them. I highly recommend working with Hiawatha's Hideaway Vacation Homes and staying at any of their properties. PURE EXCELLENCE!

What a beautiful piece of property! The house is great with lots of room and pretty much anything you need. My hubby and I canoed around the lake, enjoying the scenery and wildlife and had evening fires down by the lake. What was the icing on the cake was SILENCE! No cars zooming by every few seconds, just quiet.....We needed that. Would definitely stay here again!

Tracy Tackwell (Allen Park, mi)

We were a group of 6 and the cottage accommodated us well sleeping wise. Would have liked another couch or love seat. We all had a wonderful time and are already planning our next visit!

We spent a week at The Waters Edge cottage. Beautiful location with great access to the water. Sunsets every night. Can Kayak or swim right from the your yard. Very peaceful and quiet location yet close to town to get supplies if you need. The cottage was very clean and the people from Hiawatha's were very easy to communicate with and had timely responses. There are multiple outdoors activities very close to cottage making it nice to be able to not have to drive far to find things to do or if you just want to sit outside and enjoy the view you can do that too. Would highly recommend Hiawatha's vacation homes and would definitely return to this area again.

Maple Ridge Cottage is a lovely, well-equipped cottage. It's location is perfect....Quiet and peaceful. But, close to gorgeous hiking trails and lakes and to Munising. Maple Ridge is exceptionally clean and well maintained. We loved our evening BBQ's and camp fires and enjoyed many a long evening on the beautiful deck. Maple Ridge has everything you need for a perfect family vacation. It is AWESOME!!

10 of us stayed at Doc's place in the winter and had a fantastic time. Beautiful home that looked like we might have even been some of the first people to stay there since it was updated. Plenty of space, towels, blankets, and amenities. Had absolutely no problems with the entire experience. Everyone said that they loved the house and would definitely love to come back in the summer.

Tim (Houston, TX)

Jan 18, 2016

I had a wonderful stay here with family and friends over a long weekend. The weather was perfect, lots of snow and cold. All the amenities and warmth of the home made for a cozy, relaxing and fun retreat UP north.

Oct 07, 2015

We made an early fall trip to Munising this year. I was fortunate to discover Doc's Place when I was searching for a house to rent for our visit. Doc's Place is large, spacious and well equipped. It felt like "home" to all of us. Everything was clean and the communication with Lisa prior to our trip made everything so much easier. It is a wonderful house if you are visiting the area.

Jocelyn Hankins (Pinckney, MI)

Sep 19, 2015

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your home! It was clean and well equipped - we definitely did not want for anything! The home was clean and well furnished. The grounds were just lovely! We were about 12 minutes away from downtown Munising. From our 'base' we were able to visit Marquette, Grand Marais, and Grand Island. We took a pictured rocks sunset cruise, visited Munising Falls, Miners castle and Chapel Hill. Open Wings is a wonderful little gallery in downtown Munising and don't forget to get your pasties at Muldoons! All around wonderful trip - would highly recommend Hiawatha's Hideaway to anyone! Thank you for sharing your home with us!

miranda (stephenson, mi)

Sep 14, 2015

Very nice cabin. Very clean. Had everything we needed. Loved having the garage to store boat in. Not a far drive to pictured rocks. Would definitely stay again.

My wife and I stayed at the Bay View Vacation Suites #2 and had a great time. The rental was very easy to access and was spotless when we arrived. It was right on Lake Superior, which made for great views and it was extremely close to Pictured Rocks State Park. The rental felt very new and was well equipped with kitchen supplies and paper goods (paper towels, TP, and tissues). The bed was very comfortable and the linens and towels were very clean. Everything was great and we would highly recommend this rental!

Cindi Martineau (Lansing, MI)

Aug 01, 2015

We were fortunate to spend two months at Tannery Landing. We also rented Tannery Landing for three full months in 2009. Since our oldest child was going off to college, we thought it would be fun to be there again before he started school at Northern Michigan University. This house is located close to many sites in Munising, from Munising Falls, to Sand Point Beach, to the twin falls. It's also convenient to all of the Pictured Rocks area. This is my favorite area in all of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. You won't find a better deal and if you can get away to the north for a couple of months rather than a week or two, this is the place for you. Comfortable and convenient. We had a great time and hope this won't be the last time we are able to enjoy this home.

Lori (Avon Lake, OH)

Jul 18, 2015

What a lovely little cottage! All facets of the cottage were in tip top shape. Could not have rented a better cottage!

Robin (Newport Beach , CA)

Jun 26, 2015

This is the 5th house we have rented from Lisa and as usual, it was great! We spent 4th of July week there and had six adults and two toddlers...there was something for everyone! The views were stunning, the water was warm and clear and the paddleboat was a ball. We even played ladder ball in the front yard. Smores around the firepit were yummy! We will definitely rent this home again! Thank you Lisa for everything!!

Victoria Sutherland (Traverse City, MI)

Jun 18, 2015

Thanks again for accommodating us and our dog short notice. It was an excellent respite from our "urban " life in Traverse City. The apartment was perfect for the three of us, and we truly enjoyed coffee each morning overlooking the lake as well as easy access for our kayak and central point for day hikes in the gorgeous woods around you. Hope to be back soon~

Diane Bair (Traverse City, Mi)

Oct 05, 2014

We found the Evergreen Cottage just the right size for two couples (and one dog) and well equiped. The location is good for waterfalls and the Pictured Rocks. Our only suggestion would be for better reading lighting. We are all avid readers and couldn't find a good spot for anyone to read comfortably except for the dining table.

Cathy and john abbott (cleveland, oh)

Sep 27, 2014

What a welcoming, warm, clean, cozy cabin! We had everything we needed there and more. The bed was so comfortable and the lake was gorgeous. We were so happy to have been able to stay at your cabin and will recommend it to our friends. Thanks again for everything!

Sep 19, 2014

This is our 3rd stay at Cranberry Lake - this place is #1. Perfect is not saying enough for this location. The home is fantastic - upscale - every amenity you would expect - and in the woods - if you are coming to the UP - YOU MUST book with Hiawatha Hideaways !! Management will do anything necessary to make your stay the lifelong dream you expect!

Maggie Nitz (Sawyer, MI)

Sep 17, 2014

My husband and I wanted to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary this year by renting a house in the UP. We picked Munising as the town to visit for Pictured Rocks. We initially reserved the cottage on Lake Superior, but that reservation was cancelled and changed to Hiawatha's Hideaway. We were VERY pleased with the house and its coziness; it reminded us a lot of being in our little house at home. We were very comfortable with having our 10 month old son, Jonah, and our dog, Lucy, along. Words can't explain how much better it was than a hotel! We would love to stay at this house again or check out your other rentals. Overall a great experience! Thank you.

Steve (Lexington, KY)

Sep 13, 2014

We had a great time at the Maple Ridge. It was well hidden, and extremely quiet. The night sky was beautiful where you can see almost every single star. We basically didn't have any reliable cell phone signal in the area (Verizon). This is perfect, since we wanted to have a nice get-a-way. We did have wireless internet in the cabin for as needed communication. We arrived on Saturday, and on our arrival, we discovered a nice little gift from Lisa! The cabin was perfect for our needs. Heating and cooling worked well. Showers had good hot water. The beds were comfortable. All the little amenities were there. Satellite TV didn't work the first day that we were there, and Lisa was very responsive. Although I think it was probably the highly hyped solar flares that caused the disruption, since we had no problems the other days we were there. We had a great time at the cabin, and would definitely choose it again!

Steven (Chicago, IL)

We enjoyed our stay at the Eagles Nest very much! It was cute and clean, had everything we needed. We grilled out back on the second night, and much to our surprise, an eagle flew over us into the trees! It was the first one we had ever seen in the wild! It made the day! We will recommend The Eagle's Nest Cottage to friends and family!

A perfect get-away cottage for a couple or perhaps with one or two children. Beautifully appointed and decorated, super clean and well-equipped, comfortable. 'An oasis in the center of Munising - just a block from the boat dock and the bookstore (ice cream and great food) . . .also near trails and waterfalls.

Great little cottage nestled into the town of Munising!! It was nice to look out the kitchen window, which overlooks Lake Superior, and see the sun rising high in the sky. Within a few minutes walk to the docks for the Pictured Rocks cruise!! Did I mention the Dairy Queen that is right across the street? Nothing better than a Blizzard on a warm summer evening!!

We had 11 people stay in the cabin for a week and had a great time. Petes Lake was great as well as all the other lakes within a mile drive or walk. Cabin was clean and comfortable. There was a little party store (Forest Glen I think) right down the street which was convenient and the people were so nice. I went down there to buy a garden hose spray nozzle which they did not have but the lady went outside took one off their hose and told me to bring it back when I was done. Great People Great Cabin we will be back

We stayed at Maple Ridge and had an awesome time. It was nice being close to Pete's Lake for swimming. Bruno's trail was awesome for walking and biking. The cabin was cozy and huge enough for our big group. What a beautiful place, we look forward to coming back next summer.

We rented Sunset Beach for a family get together and were quite happy with everything. The entire rental process was well organized and easy to understand. Lisa was very accommodating and was always prompt in getting back to us. The house itself was beautiful, well maintained, and had all the essentials needed for our week's stay. It was very clean an orderly upon our arrival. We will not hesitate to use Hiawatha Homes in the future when we return to the U.P.

The Moose Lodge on Cranberry Lake is cozy with a beautiful lakeside view. My best memories include watching my husband canoe with our (2) teenagers in the evening. The sunset was breath-taking and reflected off the water. The beds were comfortable and all accessories that I needed to cook were provided. Close access to Picture Rock National Lakeshore provided hiking and kayaking fun. We did not have luck fishing in Cranberry Lake, but Pete's Lake Close by allowed us to catch (15) fish in (3) hours one evening. Northern Pike and Bass were attracted to our bait from the side of the pier. What a great get-away to escape from the buisiness of life and reconnect as a family!

We really liked the remodeled home! The only issue we had was the A/C was leaking, but the owner came and quickly fixed. The house looks like it is straight out of Pottery Barn and the internet was fast....everything was great, including the location!

Had a great time at the Hideaway. My son got to have the whole basement to himself and loved the heated mattress pad on the bed. there was plenty of space to park our snowmobile trailer and enough space left for my son's truck and trailer too. There was not much snow while we were there, but the people in the area are very friendly and nice. My family and I stayed at your house the week of September 8, 2012. The weather was beautiful therefore we got to cook dinner over the bonfire nightly. We toured all of the local waterfalls, picture rock and also had a wonderful triple berry pie from the local store. The accomadations at the house were everything we needed. Thanks again for a wonderful time!

We stayed at your home in July 2012 with our daughters and three grandchildren. We had a great time and did a lot of sightseeing, hiking, swimming, etc. House was lovely and very accomadating. It was very hot during that time and the ceiling fans were a blessing. Managed an evening at the fire pit which we all loved. Rest of the family were hoping to see "Kid Rock" but settled for a boat ride seeing beautiful Pictured Rock and another to see the sunken ships!

We loved our autumn week at Hiawatha Hideawy. The cabin had all the comforts of home and then some. Everything was neat and clean on our arival, just waiting for our week of relaxing. The kitchen was well equipped, and there was a generois supply of towels, blankets, etc. Nothing was lacking. The nearby hiking trails and wilderness lakes were fantastic. We also spent plenty of time at Pictured Rocks and Seney Wildlife Preserve. We are anxious for our return to the UP.

Me and some fellas from Michigan, Illinois and Wisconsin stayed at the Hideaway for the snowmobile weekend. The trails were nice and so was the hideaway. Perhaps the squeaky floor can be improved (for those who sleep in the basement). Other than that, it was nice, very clean, well kept.

Sept. 2006 - Hiawatha's Hideaway is a fantastic place to stay, I'd highly recommend it to anyone! The cabin is huge, and extremely clean, very well taken care of. The basement bath is like a spa in the woods! Also, Lisa and Tom have thought of everything you'll need - just bring food, clothes, and your camera! There's even a dishwasher, 'cause who wants to wash dishes when you're on vacation! Plus there's a store within walking You won't believe how dark it is at night - the sky looks like velvet it's so full of stars. And it's so quiet we slept like babies! We enjoyed the firepit out back, and the huge backyard, with tons of trees just starting to turn colors - spectacular! The big deer that strolled across the yard one evening was beautiful! There are plenty of things to do close by - tons of waterfalls, pictured rocks boat cruises, glass bottom boat shipwreck tours, and the Seney National Wildlife Refuge (we saw swans, bald eagles and loons there!). We highly recommend all of the above! Not to mention the hiking, we simply crossed the road and hiked the McKeever ski trails every day, they're really nice, very wide, and quiet (no vehicles allowed), with plenty of views of lakes, huge trees, tons of birds, and photo ops everywhere you turn! Check out Mocassin Lake also, the sunset will be amazing, and the boardwalk area near the intersection of 13 and 28. Oh, and don't forget to get some pasties from Muldoon's in Munising! Delicious! Obviously, I can't say enough about this place, and the area! We will definitely go back, and recommend that you check this place out for yourselves! -Kim, Redford, MI

From the Hideaway Guestbook - Hiawatha's Hideaway is like a second home. What a comfortable place surrounded by such natural beauty! Lisa and Tom sure know how to take care of their guests by providing a clean, wholesome environment. Went to Moccasin Lake one evening and heard the cry of the loon which was repeated by it's echo. Disturbed what I believe to be an eagle in the treetop. The sound of the wings on take-off will never be forgotten. Bruno's Trail is a real delight (Don't try it in one day!). Pictured Rocks is a photographer's dream come true. So are the Falls. As Arnie would say, "I'll be back".

From the Hideaway Guestbook - We had a great week - so much to do - never enough time! We visited many of the areas waterfalls, awesome beauty! The shipwreck tour was very cool also. We re-visited Big Spring and Fayette - family favorites. The two oldest boys Josh and JD went kayaking on Indian River and Pete's Lake. They also enjoyed hiking Bruno's Run. Everyone enjoyed swimming in Pete's Lake, Lake Superior and Lake Michigan - building sand castles was a must! Our dogs always looked forward to their walks on the McKeever Ski Trails and a swim in Pete's Lake. We also had the unfortunate priviledge of visiting Munising Hospital Thursday night after a mishap with the axe when splitting wood for that nights' fire. Dr. Lorance gave Greg ten stitches on his left hand - we saw at least five deer on Hwy13 as we drove back after midnight. We enjoyed the quiet, the starry night skies, the beautiful pines out back and nature all around - it's a very nice place to stay! Thanks much for the cookies too!

From the Hideaway Guestbook - We had a great time! The cabin was VERY clean, quiet and roomy! The basement was great - the bathroom being the highlight! The house was great for us having a 2-1/2 year old and 9 month old. It was close to everything we wanted to see. The beaches here are awesome - what a treat for my two little sand monkeys! The waterfalls were great day trips - there were so many beaches to reward us at the end of our hikes. We loved our time here - thanks for the wonderful accomodations!

From the Hideaway Guestbook - Thanks to Lisa and Tom - Our stay at Hiawatha's Hideaway has been just wonderful! While our "last home" before the "Rest Home" was being built, we've enjoyed the Schramm's lovely home and hospitality. We loved exploring this beautiful area - Manistique, Grand Marais, all the falls (especially Tqhquamenon!) and, of course, Munising & Pictured Rocks. The walking trails nearby were just beautiful throughout the last of summer and Autumn - which was incredible (and I have the photo's to prove it!) Being recently retired and having made the decision to settle in the U.P., we really feel we're in Gods' Country! Thanks for Everything! P.S. Thanks for the goodie basket and puppy treats!!!

From Hideaway Guestbook - Accomodations were VERY nice! Would definitely consider returning in future! Trails were usually beat around Munising. Found best trail conditions going West to Gwinn & to the South. Temps were warm 30-40 during the week so the snow slowly diminished, especially on roadsides. Some side roads were starting to show mud! Hope it snows and gets cold soon - too early for Spring!

Jan 23, 2004

From Hideaway Guestbook - Just up for a quick weekend. On Sat. rode to Ishpeming & back. Trails were wonderful! Lots of recent snow! Beautiful scenery. We used the new "trial" trail through Marquette. The trail had been opened a year ago - then closed due to resident's complaints & now is a trial for this year. It sure is a convenient way through Mqt. However, it does pass by many houses very closely. There are signs at either end - but none say a speed limit for daytime AND there is a speed limit of 25mph in this residential area. This speed limit was in the MI snowmobile Assoc. magazine and in the local press - so, the locals know this and a lot of snowmobilers apparently do not, or just choose to ignore it, and are jeopardizing our chances of having this be the permanent trail through Mqt for years to come. Please be forewarned! Happy Riding!

This home is just like home, but better because it is in the U.P. very nicely kept. Enjoyed the camp fires & quiet. We had fun kayaking every day on Mckeever, Grassy, Fish, Bar, Red Jack, Scout, Council & Lion Lakes. Went up the Indian River as far as Squaw Pond. Drove the back roads after supper & counted 13 deer in one night. We saw turkeys, fox, pine martin & partridge. Plan to retire up here in 5-1/2 years. Glad we are coming back in 3 weeks for our last trip for the year. Sure is nice to stay here. Thanks!

We love your cabin - so clean, comfy & lots of conveniences. A great home away from home! We think it's the perfect setting & near enough to do a lot of the "tourist" stuff. We made it to kitchi-iti-kipi, Seney, Grand Marais (in the dust since it didn't rain all week!), P.R. Cruise, Taq.
