We love this house. We have probably stayed in the house 5 different times. It is so comfy. We hike all day and then used the kitchen to cook a meal every night. All six of us ate dinner at the table, and we watched Halloween movies at night in the living room. The house is a great location on Main Street. We will mostly certainly stay the house again. 5 Stars!!!

We had a wonderful stay at Doc’s Place! It is very clean and had beautiful views! This home has an open layout for the kitchen and dining room. There were 10 people in our group and there was plenty of room! We loved the area and Lisa was so helpful! We would love to stay here again:).

What a beautiful property! Truly one of the best I've stayed in. Incredibly clean, updated, bright and roomy. We also loved the crisp bed linens, fresh white towels, and helpful kitchen serving dishes/utensils. Less than a minute walk to the heart of down town and literally across the street from a Dairy queen. Communication was great and always very responsive. stay here you won't regret it! We'll certainly we back. Thanks so much Lisa!

What a lovely home located right in the heart of downtown Munising! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and can’t wait to go back! This home was very well equipped in both the kitchen, as well as the bathrooms. There was more than enough space for our family of five! We wished we had more time to enjoy this beautiful home, and will definitely recommend this home to anyone visiting Munising!

This house is very clean, has plenty of space & you can see Lake Superior! It has everything you need for your stay. If you need anything you're at the edge of town and can walk to the grocery store, restaurants or shops. Short drive to some beautiful sites, and pretty much any outdoor activity. We booked thru Lisa at https://www.hiawathashideaway.com/ and will do so again!

We stayed at this beautiful home in September 2019. There were six of us on a girls's trip, and the house was absolutely perfect for our needs. There was plenty of space, beds, bathrooms and everything you could need for a vacation. The kitchen was well stocked, as were the bathrooms. The home was sooooo clean and tastefully decorated. It is a very convenient location to Pictured Rocks, the boat cruise dock, and great hiking. I would definitely stay here again. The host was the absolute best!

Three of us stayed at Doc's Place for about a week in August. The place is fabulous. Well stocked with everything for cooking and relaxing. My only suggestions would be to replace the frying pans (everything sticks to them no matter how much oil or butter you put in the pan); also it would be nice if the bedrooms had a dresser to store clothes and a nightstand next to the bed. Other than those suggestions, the place is a winner. I and my friends would definitely stay there again if we ever ge up that way in the future.

We simply loved Doc's Place with its clean home filled with fresh linen, quaint living room and sunroom, spacious dining table, and tip-top kitchen. Evenings were spent in the backyard around the fire pit. The house is located in town making it easy to go to restaurants and boat cruises. Don't miss the boat cruise to Sprays Falls -- the Pictured Rocks are incredible! You'll love working with Lisa; she is a very thoughtful and helpful manager. Thank you so much for a wonderful hiking vacation and stay!

This place was amazing, clean and perfect for families. We were 11 people and everybody loved the place. It’s true value for money. We didn’t face any issues during the stay. It has 4 bedrooms at the 1st floor that’s enough to for 4 couples. Also, the living room and hall are big enough as well. I just loved the place. It’s very near to the pictured rocks cruise. A 5 star for the host LISA

Absolutely Loved It!!! Doc's Place was perfect for our winter XC Ski Vacation! Proximity to the ski trails at Valley Spur made it so convenient and being on the main road, the plow kept it clear so we could get out, no problem. The place itself is gorgeous, clean, and has everything you need. Beds are comfortable! Gas fireplace is such a nice touch--we enjoyed this every day! Loved the historic feel to this place, along with all the modern conveniences. Hope to come back next year!

Doc's Place is gorgeous! It was perfect for a larger group. We had gathered in Munising to ice climb and loved having a cozy warm house to come back to. It was wonderful all being able to sit at the large table to eat and play games together. There was so much space in the house that everyone was able to relax in the evening. All the beds were high end with great bedding. We loved the kitchen as we cooked for the group... could use a few more pans with no stick for eggs. Hot water was a must for the cold days on the ice...never ran out! I would highly recommend Doc's Place and going in the winter! Loved being in town in case you needed something.

I stayed at Twin Lakes Lodge for seven nights in early October 2017. It's a great spot and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again or to recommend it to a friend. Here are some things to note: * I was there by myself so I had plenty of room. In fact, I did not use the loft at all, and I used the main bedroom only to store my duffel bag and other gear; there's ample seating in the common room and at the big dining room table. If the weather is right, there's also a lot of room outdoors for hanging out. It would as well be a great place for a family because of the loft; my kids are in college now but I know they would have enjoyed having the loft to themselves. There's also a selection of board games, a videogame console and, of course, a nice little lake walking distance from the cabin. In short, it's a pretty kid-friendly setup. * I really appreciated the fact that all of the devices in the cabin worked: the kitchen appliances, the Internet service and the TV were without problems. The TV had what I consider to be the requisite channels: ESPN, hockey and the other sports stuff. It also had a lot of other programming so I'm sure everyone could find something worth watching. * It was unusually warm that week so I only used the baseboard heat in the bathroom and a little bit in the common room--but, when I did switch it on, it quickly warmed the room up and made it very comfortable. * The common room furniture and the one bed I used were comfortable and of good quality. I have rented other cabins where I almost needed to go to a chiropractor afterward because of a poor quality bed. In this case, though, the mattress was in very good shape and there were plenty of blankets and pillows. * The cabin is definitely private and off the beaten path but, all in all, is very convenient to Munising, which is a fair-sized town. You'll find a couple of decent grocery stores, some fast food, plenty of options for gas, a US Forest Service Visitor Center (very helpful staff there) and a pretty good bagel and coffee shop. I did not dine out during my visit--I was hiking during daylight hours and so I ate on the trail for the most part--but there appear to be some interesting restaurant options. I will try those when I return to the area. I was segment hiking on the Pictured Rocks Trail/North Country Trail, and was surprised by how easy it was to get from the cabin to the various trailheads. It was a bit of a drive, to be sure, but very low-key and very scenic. In many ways, I was glad to make that "commute" every day just because the drive itself was so nice and I had a chance to relax right after my hikes. The night skies are incredible. There is next to no light pollution in the area, so there is a very impressive array of stars to be seen. Be sure to bring a night sky map for the area, as well as binocs or a small telescope if you have one. Finally, if you like to ride a bike on gravel roads and two-track trails--that is, far away from paved roads--be sure to bring your bike with you to the cabin. There are a lot of forest roads in the immediate area that look to be good for riding--I may well dedicate a future week to the area simply to do some long rides on those roads. * Check-in and communication in general were easy and efficient. Lisa was very helpful in answering my pre-agreement questions and was able to provide info about the cabin and about the area. I never had the opportunity to meet her, unfortunately, but the entire process was so well-organized that there was really no need to interact other than to stay in touch as my plans and visit progressed. I treat myself to a fall hiking trip "Up North" every year. For the past six years I have stayed in various places in Wisconsin, so this was my first visit to the Upper Peninsula. The cabin and the entire experience was great; I came away with a great first impression of the UP and will look forward to returning to the area in the coming years. —Mark MacAllister

We LOVED Doc's house. Can't say enough about the place. We have stayed at many places, and this was by far the best. It is conveniently located on the main street in Munising. We had 5 adults that stayed in the house and three more adults that came over for dinner. There was so much room on the main floor for everyone. The attention to detail was amazing. For example, a Tide spot remover pen in the laundry basket. We know we will rent the house again. No doubt. —Joan

Doc's Place is wonderful. Our family vacation at the end of the end of August included 7 people and a dog. There is a large kitchen and dining room were we all gathered for meals and playing cards / board games. The table is large enough that it could seat even more. The 4 bedrooms are all good size. Three rooms with queen beds and another room with 2 twins. The beds were all very comfortable. They are all upstairs along with another bathroom. There was plenty of living space as well, spread over two adjacent rooms. The location is excellent. It is in Munising, within walking distance to some restaurants and a grocery store. The Dairy Queen is across the street. A gas station within walking distance sells beverages and firewood. There is a fire pit, so we enjoyed 2 nights with a camp fire. There backyard is large enough that we played games, such as kicking around a soccer ball, and bean bag toss. There is another small rental that shares the drive way and the backyard. It was occupied, but the driveway and yard is large enough that that was never a concern. Everything was clean and the place was well stocked. We rented pontoon boat so we could see Pictured Rocks without the paying a charter company. It was a great way to do this, and not that expensive. You can rent 1/2 or full days. If you use the standard charter method, the dock is within walking distance. Pontoon rental is nearby, but not within walking distance. There is parking at the pontoon rental. We highly recommend Doc's Place.

When we are traveling, we often try to rent a home to enjoy a more relaxed, spacious stay than always staying in a hotel. This home did not disappoint. It was a nice historic home that had been updated very nicely on the interior. The home had a view of the lake, and was within walking distance of the pier and the downtown. We took one of the ferry rides out to view the Picture Rocks area. Amazing! And we walked to one of the Friday Eve local fish Fry's, too. Doc's Place allowed us to be very flexible with our scheduling and yet relaxing in a home. Lisa was very accommodating and helped make our last minute booking take place. We would highly recommend anyone that they seriously consider this home for their stay in this beautiful lake community. Thank you Lisa. Dennis —Dennis O'Connell

Spacious, spotlessly clean and stocked with wonderful amenities- a simply amazing house. We celebrated my husband's 60th birthday with our children and grand children – 10 of us – at Doc's Place. We loved everything about it. Lisa, the manager, was so helpful and accommodating. The layout of the home is perfect for big families with large living spaces and a huge eating area for meals. Bedding is luxurious and there are more than enough towels. The kitchen is a dream-several can work in it at one time. The DQ is right across the street and we walked and biked to the boat cruise and town frequently. There is a partial view of the lake from the upper floor deck so coffee there every morning was delightful. The backyard is private and landscaped and we enjoyed the grill and had a campfire-again plenty of chairs. Great storage for bikes and outdoor toys under the deck. Even though the guest house had occupants, there was still enough separation to provide privacy. Things not to miss in Munising-the boat cruise, Tannery and Memorial Falls, Miner's Rock and Falls, Munising Falls, wear water shoes and go to AuTrain Falls, Au Train River/beach-where it empties into the lake,, Sand Pte Beach, Muldoon's Pasties, Falling Rock Cafe, Tracey's at Roam Inn-superb farm to table food (the Roam Bowl is amazing), the Interpretive Center by the Boat Tour. We also did 2geocachea in the area and my husband and son hiked the 6 mile round trip to Chapel Rock and Falls-take water shoes. Finally, in late July we wore bug spray and had very little problem with mosquitoes and no flies. Hoping to return-there is just something special about this place!!!!

The best find in the area! We have stayed at many VRBO's throughout out travels and this was by far the cleanest, most comfortable one we have stayed at. It was spacious and easy for 8 adults to move around and get ready for the day. We also appreciated the written expectations for departure. Thank you for sharing this beautiful home with travelers who enjoy not having to stay at a hotel.

This house was awesome! It's huge and since, there were just four of us, we had this giant home just to ourselves. Everything was clean and elegantly organized prior to our arrival and there's no lack of resources, be it in the kitchen or the living room entertainment. Lisa has been an amazing host throughout and this is a wonderful retreat for anyone looking for a brief getaway from the busy city life. Munising is a small town but the proximity to Lake Superior and the Pictured Rock lakeshore makes for a great vacation. We would definitely love to be back.

Doc's Place is a very well-maintained home on the main street in Munising. There is a view of Lake Superior from the house and its backyard. You do share the rather large backyard with the guest cottage. There is a patio with two tables and an upper wooden deck that are just for the use of those staying at Doc’s Place. I thought being on the main street might be noisy, but it was not noisy at all. There was far less traffic on the road than what I had expected. We were a group of ten people: Six adults and four children. The home is truly spacious and lovely. It was definitely worth having to pack our own porta crib. We debated back and forth between motels or this home. We were so happy we chose the home. The kitchen is well stocked. We did use a lot of disposable products, mainly because we had children and didn’t want to break anything. There is a full sized refrigerator, a dishwasher, a range and a microwave. The laundry room includes a washer and dryer. The bedrooms were all spacious and nicely decorated. There are two bathrooms, which worked out well for the ten of us. At some point an all-season room was added to this home. We made this room into the child’s play room. It was so nice having a place they could call their own and it kept their mess all in one location in the home. The kitchen is huge with a large table that seated our entire group. The living room is also spacious. The air conditioning is unique. You need to keep the bedroom doors open in order to benefit from the cooling system. We rented this home when the temperatures were in the 80s and the home stayed very comfortable. You are walking distance to the Pictured Rocks Cruises, a playground, supermarket, restaurants, shops, ice cream stores, etc. This location was truly perfect for our needs!! We loved being able to walk to so many places. If we are in the area again, we will definitely consider Doc’s Place. Lisa, was always prompt to respond to our questions, even when we had finally arrived at the home. The reservation process went smoothly. I highly recommend this rental as your home away from home when you are in Munising. It was a great stay at a warm and inviting home. Date of stay: July 22, 2015

We lived in this house for 4 nights. The house itself and the kitchen, the plates, the beddings, towels were so clean that they impressed every member of our team coming from four families. We had experiences like a 5-star hotel The location is also great to allow us to visit different places easily. The only probelm was that one window fell off, but the problem got fixed very quickly after we contacted the manager. Overall, we had a very pleasant stay in the property. We would be happy to recommend it to friends.

A wonderful long weekend of snowmobiling! The trails were excellend & locals were very friendly. We were hoping to win at the casino to pay for next years trip - but no luck! Doc's Place was great for our group of 8. See you next year!

Feb 21, 2014

I rented a house in downtown Munising (in lieu of a more rural location) so that it would be easy to find when we arrived late at night. The house is on the main strip, with a snowmobile route just to the north. We snowshoed on Lake Superior a few times directly from the house, just a few blocks away. There were ice fisherman houses and snowmobiles on the windy lake- we would have gone to Grand Island if not for the blinding snowstorm. The house itself is newly renovated with a full kitchen with new appliances, a washer/dryer, two full baths, and 4 separate bedrooms. The house appears to be staged for a sale, with Williams Sonoma dishes on the dining room table and books and pictures carefully placed. Lisa from the management company was great.

The only thing that could have made this trip only better would have been if it was longer! The house is fabulous!!! We had a great time preparing meals in this awesome kitchen. We had the most amazing week with our entire family. Pictured Rocks boat tour was great the 1st day, even though a few of us got sea sick. We had a great hike from Miner's Castle to Miner's Beach & enjoyed a swim in Miners River. We visited family here in Munising several times. Some people we haven't seen in 15 years. We visited most of the waterfally & the firewords were beautiful. The most valueabletthing was thte time with family. Thank you!
