Heaven on Stevens Lake — GuestBook

Margaret Powell (Westwego , LA)

May 28, 2022

Absolutely fell in love with this place. Very cozy and inviting, nice floor plan, comfortable and had everything I needed. If you want to be off of the grid for a while and forget about the outside world, this is the place for peace and reflection. Lives up to the “Heaven” name, for certain. I definitely plan to go back. No one in my group was disappointed.

That's the best way I can describe our stay at Heaven on Stevens Lake - which is exactly what my wife, & two adult children were looking for. We had a full schedule of places to visit over the week, but always enjoyed coming back to the cabin where it was so quiet. We hiked the trails, ate fresh raspberries right off the vine, fished from the rowboat, cooked out on the grill, and enjoyed watching the deer from the front window. Went to Pictured Rocks in Munising, Kitch-Iti-Kipi Springs in Manistique, excellent rafting trip in Iron Mountain/Norway, & a trip to our old stomping grounds in Marquette where my daughter was born. We showed her where she lived for her first year, but I was very surprised at how much Marquette & even Harvey had grown over that 22 year absence. Enjoyed the beach & black rocks while there as well. Weather was fantastic the entire week. No complaints at all. Lisa provides a great property for you to simply show up to, then sit back & enjoy. There were a few people at the cabin next door, although we only saw them when they fished in the evening, and never heard much at all from them. It was like we were on our very own little private lake/cabin. Thank you Lisa for the excellent communication throughout the booking process, and allowing us to enjoy your property.

We had a wonderful time with great weather. The home was clean and everything we needed was there. My family used the kayaks and boat. We had some much fun with firepit every night and smores (LOL). The wildlife was fun, we saw deer, chipmunks, loons, hummingbirds and turtles. Over all it was a great time.

We had a great time at Heaven on Stevens Lake cabin. Lots of room for the 6 of us. Beautiful views on the lake. Kitchen fully stocked. Everything you need to make your stay feel like home.

This place is exactly what is expected out of a cabin on a lake in the UP. Lake is good for kids to learn how to fish and has decent fishing. The cabin is nice and did not disappoint. We have been using Lisa for our summer vacation destination for the last several years and she is fantastic and accommodating. If your looking for a peaceful place in the middle of the woods this is it!!

We had an amazing time on Steven's Lake. Lisa is very quick with emails and text when it comes to communication. So much to do. This cabin has everything you could possible need for cooking and grilling. The kids absolutely loved all the water equipment, lots of time spent on the lake. Definately recommend a visit. The only downside well two downsides: We had to leave the other mosquitos!!!!! But we sure didn't let those little buggers put a damper on our vacation. When looking for a secluded cabin in the woods this is the place to be....go unplug and relax.

My family loved this place! Plenty of room inside and outside. Well stocked with everything from kitchen & bath supplies to activities. The property and lake were very peaceful and private. We felt like we had our own piece of heaven.

Whatever would we do without "Heaven", where we have stayed many times over the years. This year was one of the most memorable, as we were with our children and grandchildren in August, and then just "grandma and grandpa" in October. The property is always ready for our arrival, extremely clean, thoughtfully well-equipped, and comfortable. Congratulations to Lisa and Tom for being the best property managers in the business. Our family very much looks forward to visiting "Heaven" in the not-too-distant future and beyond!!!

The stay was very relaxing. Enjoyed the beautiful sunrises and wildlife. The home is well furnished - even spices. This home is great for couples or families. Would recommend this location.

Lisa, We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Heaven on Steven’s Lake. What a beautiful and peaceful setting! We loved the remote location, and the home was comfortable and met our needs quite well. There were six of us, we would stay again if ever we return to the UP. By the way, you were a pleasure to work with throughout. Joyce

This house is perfectly named -it really is heaven. Comfortable, well-equipped, well-organized, and on a wonderful lakeside location. We enjoyed using the fire pit and visits to Pictured Rocks and Kitch-iti-ippi (I think that's spelled wrong) spring. The lake is great for swimming and boating. Lisa at Hiawatha's Hideaway was terrific in recommending and helping us book this at short notice. Great management and great property.

Our second visit to this beautiful lake house. So peaceful and relaxing! Plenty of room for us, our son and his new family. The teens love their own space downstairs!! And, of course, the Wi-Fi. Lisa and Tom are very welcoming and willing to go that extra mile to ensure an enjoyable vacation. As for the lake.... Gorgeous star lit midnight canoe rides are highly recommended! Even better if you have a son willing to play "gondola man"...complete with singing. And, the fishing was excellent. Bass, pike, blugill and perch. All caught right off the dock! I can't recommend this house enough. Unless you're trying to take "our week"...not happening!! 😎

We have three married children and one 3 yr old grandson and a black lab. We paid extra to have the dog but it was well worth it. The deck was set up perfect. We just blocked the end with the baby gate and he was able to be with the family yet stay outside. He slept in the mudroom. The deck was also perfect for our grandson. The home was set perfectly on Stevens Lake. A very quiet, peaceful lake. I can't say enough about the view, the home (which was very clean and cozy) The kitchen was well stocked. The kids took the canoe out. Our very two favorites were the large family table (the reason the kids chose this place) for our dinners together and the fabulous fire pit. We brought our souped up golf cart and rode the many trails and the boys even got to see a bear! It ran with them then up and around them. The highlight of the trip! Heaven on Stevens is very close to many attractions. We visited Munising, Manistique, Big Springs, Munising Falls, Shipwreck Tours and Fayette. Gma and Gpa watched the grandson while the kids all hiked pictured rocks. They were so glad they had done that. I recommend very highly. Lisa was awesome to work with. Thank you Home Away! Your place was perfect for our family!

Heaven on Stevens Lake had such a gorgeous view, set on a quiet lake. Everything you could possibly need in the kitchen (certified by my fiancé, professional chef). The beds + linens were ridiculously comfortable. The reclining chairs + vast selection of entertainment proved to be an exceptional treat on our one rainy day indoors. We all kept saying that it felt like we were staying at 'grandma's house' - we truly felt at home!

We think our week in "Heaven" was our nicest vacation ever and we are planning a return visit in the next year or two. After a whole week, we were not ready to come home. There were many more things we wanted to see and do, but we also had the most relaxing vacation ever. I can't tell you how many hours we spent on the deck just looking at the beautiful scenery and all kinds of wildlife. We had a perfect mix of sight-seeing and quiet time at the house. Tom and Lisa couldn't have been more accommodating and are a big reason we plan to return. We had all the comforts of home and everything was clean and comfortable. I miss it up there already and look forward to getting back soon! Thanks for everything.

This property is one of the most tranquil settings imaginable. We have stayed here more than once and have found the home extremely clean, spacious, and child friendly. Their new second story deck off the kitchen is a wonderful retreat during sunsets or watching our family members fish, boat, or swim. We have spotted numerous deer, racoons, rabbits, swans, and geese while using the property's boats or relaxing on the dock. We have canoed the shores of the larger Steven's Lake and the smaller Steven's lake linked by a small stream that is well hidden. We have also had a wonderful time fishing in the evenings for the mammoth pike that frequent the shores as the sun sets or sitting by the campfire roasting marshmallows, smores, and watching the stars. This home is equipped with the best kitchen tools, lots of games and videos, and an excellent library of things to do from horseback riding, airplane rides, glass bottom boat rides of shipwrecks, hiking the many waterfalls and public trails, and our favorite; Pictured Rocks Tour of the National Lakeshore of Lake Superior. If you like steaks and local fish don't miss the Camel Riders restaurant on a nearby lake or the huge double dipped cones at the Thunder Lake store. The managers have been extremely helpful and courteous with information from sightseeing to providing us with a warm welcome, and follow up call to ensure everything was fine. This also appears to be the largest home on the lake and has a very secluded view of the lake. Sometimes the lake is so calm and tranquil we feel we're the only ones on the lake! Even better is the location halfway between Lake Superior and Lake Michigan in the middle of the Hiawatha National Forest. The ability to access all that the Upper Penninsula has to offer is the best reason we keep coming to "Hiawatha's Heaven".

Wow. This property was all that we could ask. We are 6 80 yrs old and were able to enjoy life in the home, on the deck and events you recommended without a worry in the world. The unit was clean, many supplies were already there, just so well equiped. If this geritol group is still mobile, we will book again. I would recommend Heaven on Stevens Lake to anyone who would like to get away. Young or older, You will enjoy.

homeowner-added comment: From the Heaven Guestbook - Thanks again for opening this beautiful home! Thanks to Lisa and Tom - as usual everything was done just right for us!! We had a great week - quite a lot of fishing with good results (especially the sunfish and bluegill!!) However, no "Stevens Lake Monster fish" sightings! Had racoon and deer "visits" and one friendly little skunk - at least he was friendly because we usually were inside relaxing while he roamed the yard!!! We did the "shipwreck tour" this year and it was really great - Nicholas (who is 8 now!), loved that - he enjoys anything to do with ships and learning about shipwrecks. We were so fortunate to have beautiful weather - only a few sprinkles. A little cool, but blue skies and sun are all we needed to enjoy all of our activities. Thank you for another wonderful vacation in "heaven"!

If you and your family are looking for a quiet and peaceful place away from the hassles of the city, this is it. The Schwarms thought of everything that you might need for your stay. The location is awesome!!!! The home is comfortable, clean and restful. The nearby nature was soothing to our weary souls. I would definitely recommend this property, hotels cannot compare. We would love to visit again. There are plenty of sites and activities to do in the area, we did several day trips to enjoy some of local sites. A Great STAY!

This was the best vacation home we've ever stayed in. We love the panoramic view of the lake and surrounding woods that offer nature at our doorsteps. Coupled with a full wrap around deck we never left the house except to buy groceries, hike Bruno's Run, tour a few waterfalls, and Pictured Rocks. We sighted a full grown Bald Eagle that landed on the tree nearest the dock twice and flew around the lake almost every day we were there. Canadian geese and a multitude of various ducks were migrating along with sightings of many deer. We saw a lot of pike from the canoe but didn't fish. The sunrise and sunsets from this home are spectacular. We also love the excellent mattresses, cable, grill, and the campfire ring near the lake. Thanks again! We'll be back.

'Heaven' is a beautiful, quiet and peaceful place to spend time relaxing. We enjoyed the scenery and wildlife, and also some day trips in the Upper Peninsula. The property is well taken care of and has everything you need for a great vacation.

Last year I was in desparate need of solitude. I am in sales and travel most of the year. I love the outdoors and vacation in the woods most often with no phone and no interruption from the outside world. I can tell you that this has been the first time that I truely enjoyed a vacation. What a beautiful place to spend time alone or with your family. I highly recommend it without any reservations.

What a great setting for a peaceful and relaxing vacation. Our kids enjoyed the swimming fishing, boating, biking, canoeing, and archery we were able to do all week. We also enjoyed the nightly fires outside and the central location location to many sites in the UP. A special thanks to the Shramms for making sure every detail was attended to. We look forward to returning.

Stayed here 8/5/06-8/12/06. Very quiet/remote place to relax. Nearby towns are 30+ minutes away. 11 and 14-yr old boys, Mom, and Dad caught lots of fish, mostly small sunfish/bluegill, couple 12-16" (unsure of type) from canoe and rowboat provided. Recommend fishing 7:30PM and later at night for best results. Toured many sites in area: Pictured Rocks boat tour (cool - 2.5 hrs), 4 waterfalls, 3 lighthouses, Marquette (college town) and fabulous shoreline from Munising to Marquette, and Soo Locks (UP canada border - NE). Enjoyed quiet fire by lake, several nights. Bats came out at 9:15PM and ate all the pesky bugs. Very quiet, even surrounded by woods. Our first trip to UP. Was very nice vacation. Note: bring some food. General store too expensive, ok for bait and they sell great pasties (lunch or dinner).

We had a wonderful vacation at Heaven. We were amazed at how beautiful and peaceful the lake was. This was our first time to the UP and just loved the beauty of the area. The house was perfect for our family of six (4 boys ages 8 to 14). You couldn't ask for a better setting to relax and reconnect with your family. The boys had plenty to do and they rediscovered board games on our one rainy day. It was great for them to be "unplugged" from other distractions. We found the house perfectly met our needs. It was very clean and well furnished and well stocked. All of our dealings with Lisa were positive. She was very prompt and polite and we wouldn't hesitate to deal with her again in the future. Thanks for a great vacation.

Lisa and Tom, As you know, July '06 was our 3rd trip to "Heaven", so it's pretty clear how much we love it there! As usual, the house was incredibly well maintained, clean, and well-stocked, a true home away from home! We love the tranquility and peace and privacy of Stevens Lake; during our week we only saw a couple other people out on the lake, so it was like a private lake almost!!! We did a lot of fishing (love the new dock), and had pretty good luck. We did a lot of relaxing, campfires, etc., and a couple trips along Lake Superior's shoreline, as well as a day enjoying Munising. We love Heaven, and have had family up there with us in the past, who are hoping to return..........of course, we will be back too!! Keep up the good work, we love it!!!

We had a great week at your vacation home on Stevens Lake. The windows in the home make for some spectacular views of the lake. And the large wrap-around deck were great for eating outside or just sitting and relaxing. Our teenage son and his friend spend quite a bit of time fishing, but everyone must have caught the fish before us, as they weren't lucky at all. I took beautiful walks daily, we enjoyed swimming at some of the lakes close by and my younger niece and nephews from Texas who joined us for part of the week just enjoyed hanging out around the house and playing at the water's edge. The games and toys were very helpful. We too, rarely saw any other people in the area the entire week. We also spent a few days traveling to Munising and hiking on the trails around Pictured Rocks. All in all it was a beautiful week.

homeowner-added comment: Lisa, We had a perfect mix of relaxing and exploring in the UP! The house was even more then we expected. Beautifully stocked with all the must haves, and pleasantly surprised with tons of extras. We got hooked on Rummykub on the one rainy day, and had to come home and buy a copy. We spent much of the week out on the dock. The kids couldn't get enough fishing. We caught two blue gills with the first two casts! But the rest of the week only caught horseflies - but that didn't even bother us. We really appreciated the binder with all the area information. We made a stop at the "must see" Big Spring. Made the drive to the two larger falls, and took a day trip to Munising for the falls there. The first map we followed failed to inform us that the Route 58 along the Lake was not paved. We quickly learned to double check the state map on our next trip out. But getting turned around seemed to be our luck - and was a part of what we enjoyed; the no worries, no time schedule we so looked forward to when we booked the week. The boys loved the canoe. They had just spent a week at camp at home and had learned about canoe and water safety (they are both big swimmers, and have gone all the way through lifeguard training) so my husband and I enjoyed watching them show off their skills. Our girls must have racked up at least a mile just running around the house! We saw two deer, heard the otters, watched two families of geese every morning take their babies out, caught the two blue gills, and on one of our biking adventures, saw a mama otter and her babies. The Lake was incredibly quiet. I think on only two occasions there was anyone else even out. I have a few photos if you?re interested I can send. There is one with the kids all sitting on the end of the dock, the water so clear with the reflection of the sky in it; it looks like they are sitting in the sky - TRUE HEAVEN! With seven kids (five still at home) you can probably guess that peace and quiet are about the biggest oxymorons imaginable :) But we had lots of both at the Lake. We so didn't want to leave. Thank you so much for having such a beautiful home to share. We are already talking about when we can come back.

homeowner-added comment: From the Heaven Guestbook - What a beautiful home and a peaceful setting. We have travelled to the Northwoods for several years and this place is on the very top of the list of places we've stayed! Tranquil - Loved sitting on the deck and enjoyed the cool weather. Lake is toughg to fish because of the weeds and shallowness, but still managed to catch many HUGE bluegill, a few pike and bass (best early morning or late evening, or cloudy days). Ate at Camel Riders - great!! Was glad the neighbors with their noisy 4 wheelers and fireworks didn't arrive till late in the week! Definitely will consider a return visit!

Father & Son Fishing

Jun 18, 2006

homeowner-added comment: From the Heaven Guestbook - "WOW" barely begins to describe our stay. The accomodations were wonderful. This was the first time in 25 years we, my father, brother and I, have been fishing together and the first time we have had 3 generations. "Heaven" is now the benchmark by which any future outings will be measured against and I seriously doubt it will be easily matched! The fishing was AWESOME. We boated 123 and missed ever more. Thanks for the great week! Sincerely, Jim, Josh, Dennis, Frank, Dave, Ken, Steve, Stacy and Seth!

Jun 15, 2006

homeowner-added comment: From the Heaven Guestbook - We had a wonderful time. We were greeted by a 12" snapping turtle which was resting on the deck beneath the gas grill. We caught one bluegill, one sunfish and two pike (one we ate, one we released). We videotaped lots of deer in the early morning hours. Visited Big Spring, Wagner Falls, Munising Falls, Horseshoe Falls and Miners Falls. Miners Castle is great! Ate at Dogpatch in Munising. The kids fished constantly. Chilly weather until the last three days. The home is wonderful, views incredible. Appreciated the games in the closet. Hardest part of the week was sharing one bathroom for 11 people. We learned patience! :) Thanks for everything!

homeowner-added comment: From the Heaven Guestbook - We have really enjoyed our first trip to the U.P. After a stay in Mackinaw City, we were awed by the total silence in your neck of the woods. Your accommodations exceeded our expectations - your kitchen has everything and the new bathroom is wonderful! Enjoyed grilling and cooking over the campfire, using the nice canoe, eating dinner at the water's edge, sightseeing in the area - all while keeping up with the Cleveland Indians on your satellite programming! Thanks! Caught Bluegill for our fish fry, but no luck with pike. We thought the food was good, generous and reasonable at the Brownstone Inn. Glen's in Manistique was the best grocery store. We also like the Seney Wildlife Refuge drive and visitor's center. Thank you for having the reference book and all the brochures and maps. It helped us plan our days and make the most of our stay. We all relaxed and enjoyed our time in nature thanks to your great rental home!

Aug 13, 2005

homeowner-added comment: From the Heaven Guestbook - We have enjoyed our week long taste of Heaven! We began our stay by visiting friends in Iron Mt., then spent the rest of the week fishing, sight seeing, reading, relaxing and eating ice cream! Our 11 & 17 year old boys loved fishing every am and pm. The 7 year old caught a "HUGE" large mouth bass and we are taking it home to have mounted! We caught the biggest blue gills we had ever seen ouside of fishing magazines! We all enjoyed eating a few of the pan fish we caught. Thanks for the opportunity to rent your comfortable home.

homeowner-added comment: From the Heaven Guestbook - This house is a true heaven on this lovely lake. I found everything I could imagine in this house. We had a wonderful time here and we are looking forward to coming here again next year. We had a lot of adventures along our stay here. It was really fun having a jet ski with us. The night fire was a awesome way to sit back and look at the sky. We saw about 4 deer - I wish I had my shot gun, but...I really hope to make it here next time. It would be my pleasure. May God bless you all.

homeowner-added comment: Your house on the lake is an absolute joy! We caught/released a 3+ pound bass and an 8+ pound pike; observed herons, geese, ducks and deer; took a quiet, careful, short stroll with a wild turkey (at leaset we think it was a wild turkey!); fell victim to a mischievous, hungry otter (ate our live bait and temporarily misplaced our minnow net); collected leaves; sightsaw; and otherwise very much enjoyed the peace, quiet, and spectacular view. May God bless and keep you and your loving family, and God bless America. Looking forward to revisiting "Heaven" again next year.

The Sticking Crew

Sep 05, 2004

homeowner-added comment: Thank you to all for opening this incredible "camp" to the "Stickling Clan"! We had a great stay in this peaceful setting. Never got the chance to fish, but spent many happy hours canoeing on the lake. Found the outflow to the little secondary lake, but were unable to complete the transet due to some very industrious beavers and their dam! The house was clean and beautiful. We enjoyed taking advantage of the well appointed kitchen. It was a great vacation! We will recommend your place to family and friends. Thanks to all!

homeowner-added comment: From the Heaven Guestbook - Thank you for allowing us to share the beauty and wonder of this place! We enjoyed every moment. The weather was super - we rode the Mtn. bike trails at Bruno's run - stopped along all the great lakes along the trail and Grand Island was incredible with untouched scenery! We had luck fishing! We caught bass, northern, bluegill and a few sun fish- even a good size cat fish! Only one northern was a keeper - 30" or so, but he's back out there for another day! We had a fish fry on Friday. Seems to be good biting when it's cloudy and a bit breezy - also just before sunset. We gave it plenty of hours each day! We found that we had good luck with night crawlers for the pan fish. We also visited Pictured Rocks, Taquamenon Falls, even a motoXrace! Our week flew by - and we all look forward to another visit someday! Thank you again - the house and property were just as we hoped.

homeowner-added comment: From the Heaven Guestbook - We had a great week. Weather could have been a little nicer. We did get to go to the beach (Sand Point) a little chilly but the kids had a ball! Did some fishing here (not much luck), went and fished Chicago Lake - had better luck there. We did a trip to Oswald's Bear Ranch (very neat). This is avery nice and relaxing cabin. guest name: The Parkhouse's

homeowner-added comment: From the Heaven Guestbook - Had great weather all week - a little rain on Thursday. Caught a nice bass and pike out of Stevens Lake. Had good success on a local trout lake and small mouth lake. Saw lots of deer and wildlife. Tons of birds, i.e. eagles, herrons, cranes, etc.

homeowner-added comment: From the Heaven Guestbook - A beautiful place - fishing mixed. One day could not stop pulling them out- bluegill, sunfish, bass and some good size pike. However, other days limited to bluegill. A great relaxing spot. Did not see "monster" fish, but may well return to have another go! Thanks!

Aug 21, 2003

homeowner-added comment: From the Heaven Guestbook - Stevens Lake Fishing and the Monster Fish! Despite reports earlier in this book indicating a difficult lake to fish - fish the lilly pads to the left of the dock. Caught bass, sunfish, bluegill - but the news is...there is a monster fish out there. Around 9pm one evening saw a large fish (fins above water) circling in the shallows to the left of the house about 100 yards away. Fins looked about 2 feet apart. It then swam very straight out to the center of the lake where it finally submerged. Even in the center of the lake it looked huge. Perhaps 1/2 as large again as the fish hanging on the wall here. A beautiful place, well organized, clean, excellent appliances and stacked very generously with a variety of name brands, first aid, I could go on and on Our heartfelt thanks!

homeowner-added comment: From the Heaven Guestbook - "Perfect" We came to the U.S. for two reasons; to see relatives and to get away from it all - this house exceeded all expectations in fulfilling the 2nd dream! The weather has been beautiful, the wildlife abundant and the view from the home is such a treat each day. Highlights for us have been Miners beach at Pictured Rocks and seeing up to 4 raccoons munching seeds each night. We just ate out once - The Camel Riders - very friendly, pretty setting and good homemade pudding. We did not meet any other British - we must spread the work (or perhaps you'd rather keep the secret to yourselves!) Thank you from us all and thank you Tom and Lisa, especially for putting together such a detailed website without which we would never have found Hiawatha's Heaven. Best Wishes

homeowner-added comment: Well, this is our 2nd visit and we are still in awe! Also, in our opinion, the Schramms do an absolutely excellent job in maintaining your property. We hit a "sighting" JACKPOT--observed a very large wolf engaged in a steedy, determined prance crossing Rt 13 (filled out a sighting report with the DNR), AND observed, up close and personal, a large Bald Eagle! It was just taking off from the road side (north on 13 just South of Munising) as we drove past. Indeed, had we a taller car (van or truck), we would have hit it. (Thank the Lord for Saturns!) We plan on returning next year during the 1st week in October! May God bless and keep you and yours! P.S. Took a small day trip to Marquette/Presque Isle...magnificient! And, scanned the nearby areas for more waterfalls, creeks, and views. Indeed there is so much to absorb in the UP...we'll be returning for at least the next 10 years!

homeowner-added comment: The sunrise and sunsets were wonderful!! This is such a wonderful place to relax and enjoy life. homeowner-added comment: We cannot express how much we've enjoyed our stay at your home. We have done so many things. We've enjoyed sight seeing and relaxing! Here are the things we've done: Went to kitch-iti-kipi (also known as Big springs) and saw the natural Spring water; we stopped at Indian Lake and walked around; went to Munising and rode the "shipwreck" boat, then we went to Munising Falls (it was beautiful); we also enjoyed eating "Pasties", then, I think the hightlight of the trip was driving to Mackinaw City and driving over the bridge and then we drove to Drummond Island. How exciting! We also went antiquing to Marquette, Negaunee and Ishpeming...what a trip! We have really enjoyed the home, relaxing on your deck and of course taking the canoe and row boat across the lake. You have a great home!

homeowner-added comment: We had a great time. The kids had fun learning to row across the lake and back. Fishing was fun too! This is a beautiful part of the world to visit! The Lake Superior playhouse in Marquette provided a lot of laughs when we went to see them perform "Escanaba in da Moonlight." Thanks from the trolls under the bridge!
