Sunrise Beach — GuestBook

Sandy Pease-Simon (Clarklake, MI)

We stayed with a group of ten woman. This house was very accommodating, and the hosts were most helpful to work with. Being right on the beach we were able to see the sunrise and the full moon rising. It was spectacular. The home had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. That's saying a lot when you have ten women to keep happy. Five stars for sure.

We had a wonderful vacation! The home is right on the beach, very private with its own firepit. We had several fires in the firepit which is just a few feet from the water. It was a beautiful setting for watching the sunset, incredible starry nights, with the moon rising directly from Lake Superior. Modern log home well maintained, with all the amenities. Great Location, in Christmas MI. The Pictured Rock Tour boats, Pictured Rock Hiking Trails and several Waterfalls are minutes away in Munising MI. We enjoyed all of these natural wonders. Lisa (host) was very attentive making sure we were well taken care of.

This location is the most relaxing vacation we've ever had. We spent the entire week just enjoying the peace and quiet of the house and beach. Make sure to set your alarm early to catch the sunrise. The place isn't named Sunrise Beach for nothing. The sunrises were spectacular! Step out the back door from the screened in porch and you are on the beach. The water is clear and cold so swimming is a chilly experience but the beach is wonderful. Just a couple of things to remember: 1) the house is on a well with a high iron content so bring your own drinking water. 2) It can be a little "buggy" so bring your bug spray.

We had to skip a couple of years due to Covid so it was great to be back to our favorite place in the UP with our daughter, SIL, and two grandkids. Just as beautiful and peaceful as we remembered. The grandkids spent every hour possible on the beach and hated to leave. I cannot recommend it more highly!

A total of 6 of us and a dog stayed here for a family trip in late summer and it was everything we needed and gorgeous. The view was the best part with the crystal-clear water, tons of colorful rocks, sandy beach, and sunrises. The house is a real log cabin with two large master-sized bedrooms, one small bedroom with bunk beds, plenty of kitchen/living room space, a screened in porch, and a fire pit with friendly neighbors that would stroll by on the beach from time to time. Buying the wood ahead of time through Lisa and the location was really convenient and we definitely want to come back one day!

We had a wonderful time at this property. Spacious and well equipped. Sunrises were awesome. We would consider staying here again. Our only wish would be that possibly some kind of water treatment would be intstalled. We were made aware that you would have to bring your own drinking water which was ok. This would not keep us from renting again as we really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this for a great family vacation!

We spent 3 nights at the cottage and wish we could have stayed longer. The view was spectacular and the cottage was very comfortable. Our only negative comment is the water situation and the dishwasher should be replaced. We were aware of the water situation so we brought bottled water with us. I was very impressed with all of the information provided by Lisa at Hiawatha Hideaway.

My husband and I stayed for our Wedding Anniversary. It was such a cozy place and we can’t wait to come back. Thank you for all the extra check ins and making sure our accommodations were great.

Sunrise Beach, a great family vacation house. This year, our daughter wanted to have a real family vacation. She found this home for all us, and she picked a winner! My wife and I stayed here with our daughter, son-in-law, and our 4-year-old grandson. Our son-in-law’s parents stayed nearby in a different rental house. They visited every day while they were here. The house was perfect for all of us. Plenty of room, clean, great views, a beach literally out the back door, and a huge lake. My wife loved going to sleep at night listening to the waves breaking on the beach. Our grandson loved playing in the sand and water. His parents both enjoyed paddle boarding on the lake. They were amazed at how clear the water is and how far down into the lake they could see. In the evenings, we grilled out, roasted marshmallows, and later, after our grandson fell asleep, his parents sat by the fire in the fire pit and relaxed. Our grandson found a big moth, saw a snapping turtle, and went on a toad hunt with his dad. Overall, we had a great vacation. We have lots of pictures and lots of memories. Thanks!

The rental was very clean. Kitchen well equipped. The view is priceless, as was the starlit night sky, and waking up to gradual, natural sunlight. Very quiet and peaceful. Sandy shoreline provided beautiful walks.

We had a great stay - despite the weather. The home is large, well equipped and comfy. The view is amazing. Loved the seclusion. Enjoyed a couple fires by the beach. It's nice to be close to Munising - but felt so far away.... It's close to our favorite restaurant in the area - The Brownstone Inn. The burgundy mushroom soup is delish. Did a lot of hiking. Enjoyed many waterfalls.

First, Lisa was very responsive through the booking process and our stay. Second, wow. Sunrise Beach made for a memorable family weekend. The shore of Lake Superior have always been special to our family. In the past I have camped in the area. But, I am a new mom and we were visiting for a wedding so we wanted to have an experience that would allow a few generations of us (with different physical challenges and needs) to have a memorable stay with more comforts than camping and more intimacy than a hotel. We chose correctly! The details and photos on the website are accurate and show and tell you exactly what you can expect. The website can't do justice, however, to the sunrise or sunset you can experience from a screened in porch or on the beach just a few steps from the cabin. We prepared our own meals. The kitchen had all the utensils and cookware we needed. The linens were well stocked. We tracked back and forth from the cabin to the beach a lot. We used a lot of towels. We didn't run out (and if we did there is laundry onsite). I hope to come and stay at a Hiawatha Vacation Home once during each season of the year!

We had a wonderful week stay at the Sunrise Beach House. The home is decorated beautifully and the beach is just steps outside the door. It's a private setting, very peaceful, and you can fall asleep listening to the waves. There's plenty of room, we had 5 adults and 2 dogs and were not crowded in the least. In a good location to visit many of the attractions in the area. We highly recommend this beautiful beach house! —Anderson Family

We have stayed in the Munising area previously but closer to town and not on the beach but with two small grandkids we needed a nice beach for them to play on. Well, Sunrise beach lived up to its name with a beautiful sand beach overlooking Grand Island that was perfect for sand castles, wading, or just walking on the shoreline. The house was incredible, a beautiful log cabin with everything we needed. Other than a pastie run and a few waterfall hikes we rarely left the cabin. We will be back next year for a two week stay instead of just one, the U.P. is a treasure and this place is a jewel.

Sunrise and sunset, all day along, a great place ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Sunrise Beach was everything we hoped for! The house was awesome and our own private beach was incredible. We were minutes away from Pictured Rocks and one day we had a great hike right out the front door to Au Train Point. Water was cold, but we waded in anyway. Of course, our dogs loved the water and the sand. Not often you can find such a nice place that also takes your hounds! Wish we were still there - Paul Wilson, Wellington, OH Date of arrival

Spectacular Sunrise Beach ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This was our second time staying at a property managed by Lisa, and our second time with a great experience! The location of the property is ideally situated for restaurants, waterfall hiking and Lake Superior recreation. Also convenient for drives to AuTrain and Marquette. A++ on location. The cleanliness and overall condition was also very good. I enjoyed the small touches such as a tablecloth on the table and a hand-written note and wildflowers from the owners. Beds were very comfortable and the fireplace looked appealing though we did not use it as it was very hot while we were there. The owners had two powerful fans in the bedrooms along with ceiling fans in the living room/kitchen. We appreciated those. TV and WIFI worked great. Love a strong wifi signal and this one really delivered!!! The real reason to visit, though, is the private sand beach and access to Lake Superior. We enjoyed reading in the "zero gravity" lounge chairs and watching the beauty of Lake Superior. We also purchased a rock identification book and enjoyed finding examples of many of the rocks in the book. We had a small issue with the water filter towards the end of the stay and Lisa had someone there so fast he was literally in the driveway when she replied to my email! He was gone in 5 minutes. Great service. A favorite restaurant in the area is The Haywire and also the Falling Rock Cafe. Great service and great food. Date of arrival: July 22, 2016

We had a great stay with our children and grandchildren. We were close to all of the attractions. The cottage was clean and well kept up. It was right on Lake Superior with picnic table and fire pit next to it. We loved walking on the beach. There were just two issues that needed to be addressed and when I called Lisa she responded within an hour and the issues were addressed by that day. I would recommend this place to anyone and have started to do this. Thank you for a great time!

The expansiveness and craftsmanship of the home is amazing. In addition to the open floor plan with cathedral ceilings, two of the three bedrooms are massive with incredibly tall ceilings. They had large closets. Even with a king bed, night stands and a chair, there was still plenty of room to move around. The kitchen was well stocked with houseware and the appliances were clean and fully functional. Three people could be prepping food at the same time, without coming close to interfering with each other. We have stayed at several rental homes in Munising. Most of these homes were furnished with what I would call “leftover” furniture – pieces someone no longer wanted. The Sunrise Beach house had none of this. The furniture in the home was top quality and very beautiful. Lisa, the property manager, provided outstanding customer service. She was very responsive to any questions or concerns. We would definitely stay with Hiawatha's Hideaway again.

Lovely home. We enjoyed being right on the beach of Lake Superior. Gorgeous! Munising was the central location for the places we wanted to see both east and west. We had a couple of issues with the cabin, but Lisa took care of them immediately. We were very pleased. Thanks so much for a wonderful vacation to the UP!

Our stay was great. The cottage was very clean, and we had a wonderful stay, perfect for our vacation. We had fabulous weather, a couple of days of great waves and the rest of great sunrises and our toes in the sand and discovering the area. Because the weather was so mild we were even able to get in a short charter fishing trip with Captain Mitch and Shelter Bay Charters and caught some very nice lake trout our favorite. We had our little boat and got a little fishing in on AuTrain lake and went to Negaunee to the Iron Ore mine museum too. There is always something new to discover. Sunset Beach is a lovely place to stay we loved being right on the water and the interior is just what we think an up north place should be with all of the knotty pine and wood floors and fireplace. Having wi-fi, satellite cable, a dishwasher and washer and dryer, with the king beds made it even better. Kick back and relax or go out discovering were hard choices. We loved jumping up in the morning to catch the sunrise with our camera and watching the majic of the day come to life on the water.

We had a blast, the pics of the cabin doesnt do it justice, it it so beautiful. It had everything that we needed an then some. As soon as we walked in the door we looked at each other an wanted a house just like it. There was so much to do we took the pictuered rock an shipwreck cruises, I recomend both. So many beautiful water falls in the area. We both cant wait to stay in this house again.

What a fabulous, up north house for nature lovers! We had a full house, but there was plenty of room for everyone. The beach is lovely and swimmable (not too cold over Labor Day): we did a bunch of night swims with a campfire. The house is great, but the real draw is the property, with towering pines, white sand beach, and beautiful views of Grand Island. We loved the bike ride on the island and the dune climb in pictured rocks park. Highly recommend renting a pontoon for a day from the guy across the street from Muldoon's pasties. That was hands down our best day as we cruised around Grand Island to gorgeous deserted beaches and saw pictured rocks not from a crowded tourist boat but from our own comfortable boat, jumping off the ledges into the water (woo hoo!).

We had absolutely beautiful weather the first week of October and our stay at Sunrise Beach was one of the best vacations I have ever had. The beach is comprised of smooth, white sand and you can walk in either direction for some distance. It was very quiet and peaceful, we didn't see anyone on the beach and the water was calm due to the breakwater effect of Grand Island (which we had a stunning view of!). The house was tidy and the beds were comfortable. A very enjoyable stay!

Taken from the guest book at Sunrise Beach: What a wonderful relaxing week we have had! Sunrise Beach house is absolutely beautiful and we have loved staying here! Our favorite activites were the Pictured Rocks Cruise, visiting Whitefish Point & Tahquamenon Falls, finding & walking through many of the waterfalls and most of all, swimming in beautiful Lake Superior. We watched some amazing sunsets as well. Thank you so much for sharing your house with us!

Taken from the guest book at Sunrise Beach: It was a wonderful Stay!! Beautiful, peaceful and quiet location. Everything we needed was here and we did not have any occasion where we had to rush to the market. Home was very comfortable and everything was functioning well. We won't forget grand view of the lake from windows, sunrise from our bedroom, wonderful beach in front of us and fire pit. Thank you very much for everything!! Wew ill certainly come back in the near future!

Our group of teachers had a terrific stay at Sunrise Beach. So much room, wonderful amenities, and a well set up kitchen. We ate most meals at the house, walked the beach, had a campfire and made use of the wonderful s'mores left for us. This was the best place we have stayed so far in our annual trips when school ends. We also couldn't have asked for better weather!!!!

Taken from the guest book at Sunrise Beach: After just three short rainy days it's time to say goodbye. Perfect timing the sun came out for our last night! Our kids had a great time and so di us parents. We hiked in the rain, enjoyed the sound of the waves, took teh shipwreck tour and finishing with the Pictured Rocks boat tour. Even in the rain and cool temps we had lots of fun relaxing and exploring. Next time we are bringing the dogs! shh...don't tell my husband!

What a wonderful cabin to stay in for 10 days! We felt right at home. We have been to the Munising/Christmas area countless times and have enjoyed each trip. This trip we espeially loved seeing all of the waterfalls for the spring thaw. Miners & T Falls were the most amazing! Over the years we have been fond of our visits to the Falling Rock Cafe and Foggy's as well as Vierling in Mqt. This trip we tried Sydneys and the Brownstone Inn. Both were great! Our 4 year old, especially loved sleeping on the top bunk of the bunk beds. Many thanks for sharing your beautiful home!

We just had the most glorious stay at Sunrise Beach - such comfort! such attention to detail! such privacy! such beauty! such thoughtfulness all around! This was the U.P. vacation we dreamed of, and it was all true. We can't wait to return. Thanks so much!

We had a great vacation at Sunrise-we found the home in perfect condition- comfortable in every way. The beach was absolutely beautiful-took tons of pictures, of course went rock hunting, water was actually plenty warm enough to swim in. Had some great boating out to Grand Island and Pictured rocks. Were really lucky to have hot clear weather. Enjoyed our stay immensely.

>homeowner-added comment: We had a fabulous time at Sunrise Beach! My husband, who isn't a beachy kind of guy, didn't want to come home. He never missed a beach walk, and even went a few times without me! The weather was better there than it had been at home. I would have preferred a little warmer, but what can you do :) I will certainly recommend it to friends. Thanks so much, Cheryl
